The Garren Residence in Bend, Oregon | PIQUE

PIQUE Architects have designed the Garren Residence located in Bend, Oregon. The residence completion in fall 2006. The Garren Residence rests on a high desert prairie site and is a very low-slung building, with strong horizontal elements to visually tie the building to the landscape.

Three parallel axis walls orient the house toward prominent views and define outdoor rooms expanding the small footprint into the landscape. The structure features a central void that further integrates the exterior and interior. This void delivers natural light to the basement rooms as well as provides a private exterior gathering space in the center of the house.

This beautiful stunning atherton residence with its clean and simple minimalist interior inspiration is designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects. The residence is nestled between San Francisco and San Jose in California’s great bay. The Atherton Residence an urban escape with passionate focus on nature. This home features a sustainable, conscious design that rests upon a calm pond and quiet, flowing trees as it’s backdrop. The Atherton Residence features a solar hot water system on it’s roof, radiant floors and natural ventilation for cooling in the hot summer.

The previous 1950’s house, which was removed due to structural problems, featured mature landscaping and a manmade pond that the clients wanted to preserve. They wanted their new house to be a private retreat that maximizes the drama of the pond and takes advantage of the privacy of the site. As advocates of year round outdoor dining and entertaining, the clients wanted a house that would open up to the landscape and have as many outdoor rooms as possible.

The design solution breaks the program into four buildings – main house, study, pool house and garage – that ring the edge of the site and focus inwards on the pond, garden and pool. The main house features a butterfly roof that turns up to the south with a dramatic overhang. Large sliding glass doors open directly out to the pond and terrace. The roofs conceal photovoltaic and solar hot water panels.

The house is heated with a radiant system in the stone floors, and despite the hot climate it is not air conditioned, but passively cooled with a combination of overhangs, shades, and operable windows. The house also features many green building materials, including high fly-ash concrete, formaldehyde-free casework and denim insulation. The new house creates a special place for the clients, making a main residence feel like a vacation retreat.

Homes Design

If you’re like most homeowners, you want to make your home look as beautiful as possible, especially when it comes to the subject of interior decorating. One huge aspect of this is having the right drapes on your windows in your home. There are a ton of factors to consider when choosing the correct window coverings on your home.

You’ll want to consider the type of room that you’ll be buying your drapes for, as well as what the sizes of the windows are, and the type of mood that you would like to set for the room that you’ll be decorating. For instance, when choosing drapes for your children, you’ll likely choose a lighter as well as brighter style that has a simple style and design for practicality purposes.

However, a room such as a family room that is used for entertaining, where the rest of the decorations are rich and elaborate, you’ll likely use a heavier window treatment for. If you’re looking for the simple family room where you like to spend your time and relax then you’ll maybe consider a more lighter style of drape or even curtain design. This goes for the kitchen as well, which will usually have the windows dressed in a lighter style of curtain such as the cafĂ© curtain.

There are plenty of choices of fabrics, designs, and colors when choosing your homes drapes and curtains.

You’ll likely have little problem finding the perfect covering for the windows since there is such a massive choice available to you. You have simple little designs that are perfect for high traffic areas where kids and pets frequent, as well as more luxurious styles full of elaborate fabrics and patterns for the rooms that you’ll do your entertaining in, and therefore will want to show off.

You can easily bring a new zeal for life into the rooms by choosing the perfect drapes. This can help you create an ambiance and look that you’ve been hoping for. For your home improvement plans, you’ll perhaps want to find distinguishable window coverings for each room, giving each room it’s very own look and feel, instead of a more uniform look that many people decide later on is very boring.
